Design Review :
With the classic tinted black coating all over the laptop, RDP ThinBook is quite impressive at the first look. The sleek design and rounded corners appear to copy so called Apple MacBook Air design. With a thickness of just hitting a sweet spot, this ultrabook is going to attract millions not only in India but abroad as well. The 14.1-inch Display is very bright but when it comes to pixel density, HP Stream 13 is a game changer. The screen panel is very reflective and is prone to low viewing angles. RDP ThinBook has five models with different price range and Specifications. The higher versions also include Windows 10 Home versions of operating System. A wide range of Connectivity options is provided near the base of the laptop including a USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and a Mini HDMI port as well. I really liked the wedge-shaped diminishing design concept of this ThinBook. A short-cut key hub on the keyboard could have a positive point for the laptop but since the laptop demands a tight budget, this can be overlooked for now. The multi-gesture trackpad is small as compared to other members in this segment.
Performance Review :
RDP ThinBook is powered by Intel® Atom™ x5-Z8300 Processor which is capable of handling day to day tasks with a decent speed of 2M cache. The company also launched its sibling model of ThinBook having a turbo boost of 1.84 GHz. Although it is not the by far the most overclocked processor but placed under the cheapest model Ultrabook, Indeed it is going to capture the market in the near future. After opening several Tabs in Google Chrome, I noticed a slight lag in the speed of operation. This could be because of slightly less juice from 2GB RAM. RDP Thinbook Laptop also produced low figures on the PC Mark 8 benchmarks too.
Also, the Laptop took nearly 36 seconds to boot which could be annoying in terms of user experience. However, the company claims it to be the constraint of Price. On the Launch of this cheapest UltraBook Vikram Redlapalli, Founder CEO of RDP said- "Innovation remains as Innovation if it can't be affordable by masses, Innovation becomes Inspiration if its affordable & Impacts millions of lives."
Graphics Review :
Targeting a low budget audience, RDP thinbook is equipped with Intel HD graphics which is certainly not the best you get out the package. Intel HD graphics card has 12 Cores which operate at a Graphic frequency of 500MHz. So if you are thinking of playing a high-end game, then this is not your cup of tea. The Overall display quality is moderate. The Pixel seems to distort near the corners while playing a low-end game. Screen panel provides a 1366 x 768 Resolution with moderate Pixel Density.
KeyBoard and TouchPad Review :
When it comes to typing, RDP gave us a real disappointment. With the small size keys, it is real hard to type smoothly and for a longer period of times. Most of the times, I found myself hitting the touchpad while typing. This is because of low separation between keypad and touchpad. Action keys are very stiff and take a lot of pressure to get pressed. This is certainly not a good option if you are into daily writing. The cursor seems to not follow the finger gesture at times. There are LED status lights above the keyboard for power, caps lock and num lock, followed by two holes for microphones. A backlit keyboard is certainly not expected in a laptop of a low-budget segment.
Battery Backup Review :
RDP ThinBook official guide suggested this laptop to continuously run for 8.5 Hours (on Standby mode) and provides an uninterrupted user experience of 4.5 Hours without any power socket attached. I found this laptop with a decent operational time of 4 hours with maximum brightness and continuous watching movies with a 3.5 mm headset. A 10,000 mAh Li-Polymer Battery seems to do a job well done in terms of entertainment. But the Laptop produce a quite high amount of heat. A 5V/2.5A Power Adopter is provided which can be connected to the USB charging port. Obviously, a USB-C type port can not be expected here.
WebCam Review :
RDP Thinbook comes along with a VGA camera on the front panel of the screen. I am not going to contradict with the motto of this laptop but at least a 2MP camera could have made this a better choice. Pictures taken from the Webcam are drastically distorted with faded details and less color saturation. So, if you looking to chat on Skype buy a decent WebCam from here.
Speakers and Audio Review :
Dual speakers are not very loud and crisp. Under the resting conditions, I was not able to hear the voice of an actor in a movie. If you are looking to find Dolby sound quality then you are probably dreaming. A 3.5mm jack is provided near the corner of the base which provides a decent sound as compared to the output speakers. For high pitch songs, speakers tend to produce slightly high-frequency sound waves.
LastLaptop Verdict :
Having starting price of Rs 9999/-. RDP thinbook has certainly given the competitors a tough competition. The overall configuration of this cheap Ultrabook is capable of attracting many buyers for sure. Free Security Softwares like antivirus seems missing under the hood but it does provide a look and feel of a premium product. So if you looking for a decent configuration with a more of a sytle statement Ultrabook under Rs 10,000 then this is the real deal.
