Design Review :

Lenovo Y50 is a gaming laptop which is designed keeping in mind the exotic feel a laptop has to offer to the gamers. I was blown away by the sleek design and curvy side strips at once. No doubt, the Y50 has much more to offer than just a plain gaming experience. When it comes to the user-experience, the Display Screen size of 39.62cm (15.6) FHD (1920 x 1080) seems pretty bright with a crystal clear in-depth view. Although the brightness can be overlooked but the color saturation of the laptop does not go unnoticed. The Higher gaming flagship devices such as Alienware 17 and Asus Rog series are more overclocked in terms of display quality.Lenovo Y50's negative point is its viewing angle.

The laptop suddenly produced foggy colors when inverted to an angle of 30 degrees. Also, The notebook's 15-inch, 1080p display scored around 208 unit on the brightness level test. But at a good front viewing angle movies, pictures, and games come to life on the FHD (1920 x 1080) display. Full High Definition displays deliver a top-of-the-line laptop experience. The Smoky Aluminium color all around the laptop is a classic paint job well done by Lenovo for many years but the spark for exotic appearance looks missing somewhere.

Audio Review :

The Y50 Gaming Notebook comes with Premium JBL® stereo speakers which are amazing. They are much louder than several other laptops in this segment. Red and black color combination gives a monster feel and thrills my ears with Dolby® Advanced Audio™. I have to admit that the high-end speakers produced crystal clear sound effects under noisy testing conditions. Lenovo Y50 audio segment has a shortcut key named as "OneKey Theater". it has preset moods for an optimized audiovisual experience. JBL speakers adapt accordingly to the channel chosen.

Keyboard Review :

Lenovo Y50 Keyboard

When it comes to the gaming, you are probably talking with your hands placed on keys. This gaming laptop has shallow keys which are quite disappointing. However, the size of keys is decent. so, if you are a hardcore gamer who likes to have a bulky with more mass in it keypads, then this is certainly not the right choice for you. The AccuType keyboard has an advantage in typing tasks. The keys are slightly rounded at the corner for better placement of finger tips which enhance your comfort while increasing typing accuracy. The best feature of Keyboard is the red-backlit which is a great help for color sensitive gamers. As the red color has the maximum wavelength among all the colors, it helps colorblind-averse people to type in low lights easily.

TouchPad Review :

A 4.25 x 3.8-inch Synaptic touchpad is capable of sustaining a gaming experience grip during a session. Also, the space between keypads and touchpad is decent enough if someone has smaller palms like mine. A heartburn situation may occur with a user having big palms. The User may end up cycling through the apps while typing because of accidental touch on the trackpad.

WebCam Review :

Lenovo Y50 comes along with an integrated 720p HD webcam which allows a user to stay connected with family and friends via video chat. During our testing, the 720p Cam was able to capture decent looking pictures which were not HD. so thumbs down for the camera here.

Battery Review :

The Company claims that Lenovo Y50 provides Up to 5 hours with a standard battery. Sounds impressive, isn't it? Well, LastLaptop testing result figures contradict the claim. On a light usage, the notebook may even provide a longer battery life but as it is a gaming device so a heavy usage performance is expected. The laptop provides a total of 4.3 hours of uninterrupted gaming experience with maximum Geforce settings.

Processor Review :

Having a 2.4-GHz Intel Core i7-4700HQ processor with 16GB of RAM, the Lenovo Y50 is basically a bomb in a small pocket. With overall gaming configuration and 3D rendered graphics, the device runs with a blazing fast speed. The 16 GB of RAM is a fruitful companion of the processor itself. It is capable of handling multi-application tasks easily and steadily. I did not experience any lag while playing high-end games like Mafia III and GTA V. Also, there is a slight improvement in a benchmark performance but still remains far from hitting that sweet spot which a gamer feels while using Alienware 13 series laptop.

Lenovo Y50 has certainly used Core i7 processor but little has been done to cool the internal components. As the system gets a bit hotter, the cooling fans do not seem to work efficiently. The lack of cooling effect may get a cold response from the gamers in the market. On a thermal scale, a reading of 4.0 was recorded for the laptop which is pretty much higher than laptops like MSI.

Graphics Card :

Lenovo Y50 Graphics Card

The Entire performance of any gaming laptop depends on upon the capability of GPU. The Lenovo y50 is equipped with The GeForce Experience app which includes several features meant to enhance gameplay and endurance. The accuracy of Opal 3D rendering and G-sync opens a new dimension of virtual reality to the user. Most of the games produced astonishing shadow effects with a detailed framework. Thanks to the Intel i7 processor which provides octa-core power juice to sustain the level of experience. The NVIDIA® GTX-860M 4G takes game streaming to the next level. Although Nvidia has numerous model of graphics which goes up to GTX-1020M but taking the pricing into consideration, the present GPU seems to do a perfect job.

Storage Review :

Ever thought of passing a giant elephant through a key hole? Y50 seems to do the same job I guess. Lenovo has come up with a gaming laptop having a  1TB SSHD storage which you can think of having plenty of room for all of your games and media files but the Y50 system took 28 Seconds to load Windows 8.0 operating system. This is exactly 7 seconds slower than a normal gaming laptop in this category. Moreover, a slight glitch was noted before opening the browser tab.

Software offerings Review :

Lenovo Y50 comes with a Microsoft® Office 365 Home Premium having a 30 days trial period. Many companies are now offering a pre-installed full version of Office like Microsoft Surface Pro 4.
Talking about the expandable storage Lenovo offers a Cloud Storage of 100 GB for a period of 1 year as well. I have never been a big fan of Evernote, but the application does seem to be an important offering nowadays. Just like Google newsstand for Android Users, Lenovo Y50 comes with a nicely optimized Zinio Online Newsstand which provides all the latest news from the world of Lenovo. Basic Skype™ and Amazon Kindle for PC is just an add-on to fantasize the buyers. The Lenovo Y50 comes with a one-year parts-and-labor warranty.

Security and Customer Care Review :

Lenovo Veriface Software

Security is a crucial aspect in buying a laptop of your dreams. This laptop could be your Last Laptop. Lenovo provides a 30 day free trial of McAfee® Internet Security. It has been one of the top Antivirus among various security software. One thing that is most likely to be a big success for Lenovo y50 gaming laptop could be the Lenovo VeriFace® Pro. It is a face recognition login software which uses the front-facing webcam to authenticate the notebook owner. This feature is incorporated after Apple Macbook series.

Pricing Review :

Although the price has never been an issue for a hardcore gamer still officially this Little Lenovo Y50 devil here is priced at Rs 77,999/- on Flipkart. Although, it is placed moderately between top notch high performing gaming laptops but is still holds the power of driving a gamer crazy on the roller coaster ride. Click here to buy on Flipkart.
